October 8, 2026
On Thursday, October 15, the Newport Beach Film Festival opens with galas at Regal Edwards Big Newport and at Fashion Island. StyleWeekOC is on its second day at Fashion Island. Corona del Mar Village stays open from 5 to 8 p.m. for Carnival del Mar, the Halloween edition of 3rd Thursdays. All three land on the same day, at Fashion Island, at Regal Edwards Big Newport and in Corona del Mar Village.
The rest of October is arranged around that Thursday. The month opened with one capped-ticket evening on October 3, followed by a gap with no marquee event in this guide through October 13, before its biggest dates stack into nine days. The best plan for the rest of the month follows from that shape.
The 2nd Annual Botanical Ball took place Saturday, October 3, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Sherman Library & Gardens, 2647 E. Coast Hwy in Corona del Mar. The evening began with champagne, signature cocktails and appetizers from Sherman's new restaurateur. A live auction followed at 7:30 p.m., and DJ dancing began at 8:30. According to Sherman's event page, individual tickets were capped and sponsor lounges and reserved tables were expected to sell out. Last year's inaugural ball, presented by South Coast Plaza, sold tickets at $375 each. The 2026 price is on Sherman's site.
The gardens are marking their 60th anniversary this year. Sherman is also where Hazeltine's is planned to open in late summer 2027, with brunch, lunch, dinner, a full bar and afternoon tea, according to Visit Newport Beach's what's-new roundup. That opening is a year away; in the meantime, the ball took place on October 3.
Between the ball and October 14, nothing in this guide is scheduled. There are still days to book the tables that fill first.
Kaiya Omakase + Bar is the clearest example. It opened in July inside Lido House at 3300 Newport Blvd with a 12-seat sushi counter. Executive chef partner Riley Huddleston, known for The Mayor's Table at the same hotel, runs it with chef Brian Kim. WhatNow's coverage traced the plan back to an Orange County Register report. Twelve seats can't absorb a festival week's worth of demand, so a booking made before October 14 leaves more choices than one made during the festival.
West Coast Highway has two other newer dinner addresses:
Uchi is not among them yet. Chef Tyson Cole's eighth location, at 2510 W Coast Hwy, was announced as Orange County's first and seats 175 including the bar. Every source found says 2026 and none gives a date, so it is not part of an October plan.
On Balboa Island, Luke's Lobster has a Maine-style shack open, and Jasper Coffee has been reported in a soft opening on Marine Avenue. Both are worth a stop on a quieter weekday, and Jasper's hours are worth confirming first.
Once the cluster starts, the dates come in this order:
| Date | What | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Oct 14 to 18 | StyleWeekOC, 15th year | Fashion Island |
| Thu, Oct 15 | Film festival opening-night galas | Regal Edwards Big Newport and Fashion Island |
| Thu, Oct 15, 5 to 8 p.m. | 3rd Thursdays, Carnival del Mar | Corona del Mar Village along PCH |
| Oct 16 to 18 | Film festival Main Stage events | Fashion Island |
| Sun, Oct 18 | Festival Honors and Variety's "10 Actors to Watch"; 42nd Annual Spirit Run | Festival venues; see the event listing |
| Through Thu, Oct 22 | Remaining festival screenings | THE LOT, Regal Edwards Big Newport, Starlight Cinemas |
Orange Coast reports the festival running October 15 to 22 with more than 50,000 expected attendees. The lineup, announced on September 18, is over 100 features and 250 shorts from 21 countries. The centerpieces are James Gray's Paper Tiger, Danny Boyle's Ink and Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine.
Most of that volume is not gala-priced. A festival ticket listing published in May showed standard screenings before 5 p.m. at $15, shorts at $10, Spotlight screenings at $25 or $50 with a party, and party-only entry at $30. The opening and closing galas and the after-parties are 21 and over, since they have hosted bars. Festival details are on newportbeachfilmfest.com, and the main box office is at 957 Newport Center Drive at Fashion Island. Prices can change, so confirm them there.
That price spread matters for a busy week. A $10 shorts program or a $15 afternoon screening fits around a weeknight. It also means October 15 is one night of a much longer festival, and the daytime screenings before 5 p.m. avoid the overlap entirely.
StyleWeekOC runs October 14 to 18 at Fashion Island, and its September 28 announcement names Jamie Chung as headliner. It includes an author talk with Keltie Knight and a culinary event pairing fashion retailers with Telefèric Barcelona and Cucina Enoteca. Because StyleWeekOC and the festival's Main Stage events share Fashion Island on October 16 to 18, that weekend puts both at one address.
3rd Thursdays launched in 2025 and runs only on the third Thursday of April, July and October, so October 15 is the last one of 2026. According to Visit Newport Beach, more than 70 local businesses support the series, along with The File Group, the Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Lauren Kleiman. The October edition is Halloween themed, with trick-or-treating, games, prizes and live music. The Corona del Mar Branch Library is hosting a family evening with the Cool Critter Reptile Zoo from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Corona del Mar Chamber's listing gives the date as October 16, but Visit Newport Beach's event page and other local coverage say Thursday, October 15. Confirm the date on the day.
October 15 puts events at Fashion Island, at Regal Edwards Big Newport and along Pacific Coast Highway in Corona del Mar Village. Corona del Mar's window runs 5 to 8 p.m. The gala start times are on the festival's site, and checking them now shows whether one evening can hold both.
A workable sequence uses the remaining days for reservations, October 15 for one anchor, and the rest of festival week for screenings under $15. Sunday, October 18 carries both the festival's Honors event with Variety's "10 Actors to Watch" and the 42nd Annual Spirit Run, which Newport Beach Living's calendar lists, so that day needs its own plan.
After October comes the next fixed pair. The 28th Annual Balboa Island Holiday Home Walking Tour is Sunday, December 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs through Newport Harbor at about 6:30 p.m. each night from December 16 to 20.
